Floating Pontoons Using Hdpe Pipe

Oxford Plastics manufacturers hdpe pipe for floating pontoons that can support a structure on water. We specialize in floating pontoons which can be used in various industries for supporting large structures on water from docks to large fishing pens. Because of its inertness to salt water, our pipe is ideal for salt water environments with high levels of chlorine. Since its density is about 96% of that for fresh water, and about 94% that for sea water, our pipe floats even when its full of water. Its flexibility and light weight make it easy to handle and install in water environments. If you're in the business of building floating structures on lakes, in harbors, along ocean fronts, from docks to fishing structures, and are looking for a reliable source of hdpe pipe, contact us today and we will gladly answer all of your questions.

Why use HDPE Pipe for Floating Pontoons?
In recent years we have seen constant increase in the number of floats or pontoons using our pipe as a floating material. Its popularity is due in part to its unique combination of lightweight flexibility, inertness to salt water and excellent buoyancy. The piping material that you choose for your pontoon project can have an significant impact on both the performance and functional efficiency of the pontoon. Our pipe's light weight allows for the installation of long lines with minimal labor and less lifting machinery than required for more rigid pipe. Long lines of our pipe are possible using portable heat fusion machines which can form joints that are stronger than the pipe itself.

Main Features of Polyethylene Pipe for Floating Pontoons
Pipe made from high density polyethylene is a cost effective and time tested solution for a broad range of piping problems in the marine and fishing industries. Time tested and proven effective for above water and below water applications, the main features of our pipe include the following:

  • Low Installation Cost
Polyethylene pipe is particularly well suited for float or pontoon installations. Its flexibility allows it to adapt to water environments without the need for expensive foundations or expensive ball joints or other flexible connectors. It's light weight reduces the need for heavy equipment and makes it easy to assemble on ocean, lake or pond areas. Its buoyancy means that long lengths can be assembled on shore and then floated into position.
  • Durable and Tough - polyethylene pipe and fittings are surprisingly resilient and resistant to damage caused by external loads, vibrations, and from other adverse conditions including extremely cold weather.
  • Easy To Repair
Compared to other floating pipe, our pipe has the lowest repair frequency per mile of pipe per year.
  • Chemically Inert
The combination of air and sea water, can be very corrosive to other piping materials. The unique properties of our pipe combine to make it particularly well suited for marine, harbor and other sea water applications.
  • Light Weight
For a given pipe diameter and equivalent performance standard, the weight of our pipe is such that it is much easier to handle requiring a minimum of heavy equipment. Since its density is about 96% of that for fresh water, and about 94% that for sea water, our pipe floats even when its full of water.
  • Leak Free Joints
Using heat fusion continuous lengths of our pipe can be assembled without the need for mechanical fittings. The fused joints themselves are as strong as the pipe eliminating the risk of joint leakage.
  • Stress Capacity
Because of its relatively high stress capacity our pipe can adjust to variable external forces generated by tidal wave and current action. Its high stress capacity also allows it to safely shift or bend to accommodate itself to altered bedding that can result by the underscouring that may sometimes result from strong wave and current actions.
  • Available in sizes ranging from 3/4" to 18" - our pipe is available in a wide range of diameters and wall thickness, with flanges, elbows, tees, and valves, providing a total system solution.

Floating Pontoon Applications
Other floating pontoon applications for which our pipe has proven to be very suitable include temporary water surface pipelines, pipe installed over marshy areas, and the removal of sludge from municipal and industrial wastewater lagoons. While the main purpose of a pontoon is to support a structure, whether it be a dock, bridge, ferry or fishing pen, it has many other applications in the marine and maritime fishing industry. Applications for our pe pipe include marine outfalls, marina maintenance, dredging mud and silt, lake, harbors, reservoir construction, marinas, canal, pond, wastewater lagoons, coastal, inland water areas, waterways, beach restoration, urban waterfronts and ports. Other popular uses include:

  • floating pontoon bridges
  • marine salvage
  • pond dredging
  • land reclamation
  • sludge dewatering
  • trout ponds
  • wastewater lagoons
  • deep-sea dredging
  • seabed intervention
  • sludge dewatering
  • sediment dewatering

If you're thinking about making a long term investment in floating pontoons or platform structures for your fishing, lake, harbor or port docking applications, don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.
