Hydronic Systems - Copywright @ Water Furnace 2008Hdpe Pipe for Hydronic Systems

Oxford Plastics manufactures hdpe pipe for hydronic applications such as radiant floor heating and snow and ice melting systems. Tired of cold drafty rooms, cold feet and bone dry air or of shoveling your sidewalk and slipping on the hard ice? Radiant floor heating and snow melting systems are fast becoming the norm in cold and wet climates where comfort is hard to come by and energy is short in supply. Whether you are installing a radiant floor heating or snow melting system, our plastic pipe is ideal for residential, commercial and industrial hydronic heating applications. This innovative pipe is flexible and lightweight making it a cinch to install. It's hydraulically smooth, leak free, freeze resistant, strong and durable, offering you long term, trouble-free service.

Applications: you are on the hydronics page

Hdpe Pipe For Hydronic Heating
A hydronic system is any system of heating or cooling that involves the transfer of heat by circulating water or vapor through a closed system of plastic pipes. These closed loop systems are an underground network of fusion sealed plastic piping, which acts as the heat exchanger. The ground loop piping is filled with a fluid that is continuously recirculated without ever directly contacting the soil or water in which the loop is buried. Once the pipe is filled with fluid and purged of air, nothing enters or leaves the closed loop. This eliminates the potential shortcomings of water quality and availability associated with open loop systems.

Hdpe Pipe For Radiant Floor Heating Systems
Radiant floor heating and snow melting are two of the most popular forms of hydronic heating. Instead of just heating the air to a certain temperature, a radiant floor heating system distributes constant, even heat to the air, walls, furniture and floor by circulating warm liquid through a series of pipes located beneath the floor. Instead of reducing the loss of body heat by heating the surrounding air, a radiant heating system does it by warming the surrounding surfaces of floors, walls, ceilings, windows and doors. With no heaters, radiators or vents to work around, it is much easier to place things where you want them - not where your vents dictate. And since there are no blowing fans, living indoors is much healthier for anyone allergic to dusty air and allergens. In complete command of your heat, room by room, radiant floor heating promises you the utmost in comfort while consuming less energy.

Hdpe Pipe For Snow Melting Systems
A snow and ice melting system is a heating system that circulates hot glycol through a network of pipes located outside under everything from driveways and sidewalks to patios and parking lots keeping them free of snow and ice. These heated driveways or patios consist of thermoplastic piping embedded in concrete which carry the hot glycol supplied by a central heating boiler and pump.

Applications of Hdpe Pipe
The last twenty-five years have witnessed an expansion of hydronic systems due in large part to the extreme flexibility of hdpe pipe. Radiant floor heating and snow melting systems were initially confined to a few critical areas where snow removal was a necessity. Nowadays, the circulation of a warm liquid through flexible piping embedded in a solid surface such as a concrete floor has been extended in a variety of innovative ways. No longer limited to critical areas, hydronic heating can be used in car wash and service bay floors, airplane hangers, garages, pedestrian mall walkways, handicap access ramps, stadiums, and even under football fields. These hydronic heating systems not only allow you to provide heat and warmth, but they keep things dry allowing you to maintain comfortable indoor and safe outdoor environment all year long. This is a great benefit for any commercial, industrial or institutional undertaking in a cold and wet environment. Here are just a few examples:

Snow Melting Applications

  • Driveways
  • Sidewalks
  • Parking lots
  • Patios
  • Car wash and service bay floors
  • Airplane hangers
  • Garages
  • Pedestrian mall walkways
  • Handicap access ramps
  • Stadiums football fields

Radiant Floor Heating Applications

  • Greenhouses - allows you to keep a greenhouse heated all year long even in the coldest of climates.
  • Resorts
  • Colleges & Universities
  • Fire Stations - After a run, the firefighters can pull the trucks in and just let them sit. In no time at all the ice and snow melt off. Plus, they can lay their hoses out on the ground and come back to find them dry as a bone.
  • Museums
  • Dairy Barns
