Terminology

To help you learn more about hdpe pipe and its wide range of applications, here is a collection of terms or phrases used in the industry. Pipe made from polyethylene has many applications and is often called different things. Below is a brief list of these different applications:

pe pipe	another name for pipe made using high density polyethylene	21
poly pipe	another name for pipe made using high density polyethylene	11
corrugated pipe	is a single wall pipe with corrugations on the outside and inside. Is also a dual wall pipe with an extra layer of smooth plastic extruded into the inside of the pipe which bonds to the original corrugation on the high points, creating a dual wall.	7
potable water pipe	pipe used by municipalities to provide an adequate supply of fresh water and to remove waste water.	1
industrial pipe	pipe used for the transfer of fluids and solids in industrial and civil infrastructure applications.	5
dredge pipe	pipe used to remove material (sludge, mud, sand, sediment and toxins) from the bottom of lakes, rivers, lagoons, ponds and other bodies of water.	1
drainage pipe	pipe used to drain fields, road crossings, watershed spillways and irrigation canals.	13
sewer pipe	pipe used to transfer waste to a sewage or wastewater treatment facility or what some might call a pollution control plant.	23
electrical conduit	pipe used for housing and protecting electrical wiring and cabling systems.	85
irrigation pipe	pipe used for for all types of irrigation systems including surface, overhead, drip or sub-surface systems.	6
fiber optic conduit	pipe for housing and protecting fiber optic cable as well as any other type of data or communication transmission line.	1
foundation drain tile	pipe for controlling the amount of water on a piece of property, from its collection to its distribution and/or removal.	3
landfill gas pipe	pipe used to collect landfill gas	45
recreation pipe	pipe used in draining swimming pools, as playground equipment, draining golf athletic fields, parks and recreation landscaping and in ice rink construction.	1
sub drain pipe	pipe for road and highway construction.	1
perforated pipe	pipe for surface and subsurface drainage applications where there is enough soil to support the pipe.	1
geothermal pipe	pipe used as an earth loop for transferring heat between its fluid and the earth, and a distribution subsystem for delivering heating or cooling to the building.	5
ventilation duct	pipe used as an earth loop for transferring heat between its fluid and the earth, and a distribution subsystem for delivering heating or cooling to the building.	2
plastic culvert pipe	pipe used as culverts for transporting water from one side of a road, bridge, driveway, railway or some other structure, to the other side.	10
hdpe mortars	pipe used as launching tubes at fireworks shows.	8
hdpe pressure pipe	pipe that can operate under great pressure loads.	1
